Conceptualised as India’s only festival showcasing world music, the Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival has firmly established itself as a one-of-a-kind experience in just 6 years. Set against the backdrop of Udaipur’s mesmerising beauty and Rajasthan’s inimitable hospitality, cultural ambassadors from across the globe descend upon the city to celebrate the world’s oneness, over three days. Boundaries and language barriers become irrelevant. The success of the last 6 editions of the festival is testimony to people’s acceptance to embrace all that is different.
Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival, the first truly international destination festival promoting cultural tourism in India, is a city-wide, multi-venue music festival featuring over 150 global artists and collaborations, with participation from more than 15 countries, witnessing a footfall of over 50,000 people every year. The festival stands as the single largest world music festival in the country and has been a game changer in the realm of performing arts in India. It has also successfully established Udaipur as a world music hub in the years since it’s inception.
Spread over three picturesque venues, the festival celebrates different moods of the day, from meditative ragas on the morning stage, to romantic music at its best played beside the lake in the afternoons, while the evenings bring spirited youthful music alive on stage. A film shot by CNN International for their show ‘Travel Trends India’ highlights the Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival as one of the most sought-after destination festivals in India. It is also the only music festival that has been covered by CNN International.
The Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival returns this February for it’s 7th edition, with a whole new buffet of artists, to take audiences on a journey around the world. This year, we also have a special focus on the preservation of the ‘Sarangi’, a rare instrument from Rajasthan. Passed down through generations, it is important to sustain this dying art form.
The festival also includes welcome concerts at Maharana Pratap Airport & Udaipur Railway Station with a showcase of undiscovered Rajasthani artists, and multiple artists’ workshop at schools for the students of Udaipur.
